Aryna Sabalenka celebrating a point
The Belarusian player ended the season with an impressive 23-3 Grand Slam match record.

The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.

The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of Dominance

Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic ÂŁ11m in prize money.

She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
