The network's Leading New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
