The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
