Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport After Major Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were stopped after an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," the statement added.

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the airport as backlogs are managed.
