Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
